I am currently in my 3rd year studying law, at the University of Huddersfield. The area of law I am working in, is the Private Client sector. From working at Ridley & Hall, I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoy my time working here and every task I am assigned is a learning experience. I am constantly learning and developing numerous skills which complement my degree as well as gaining a true understanding of the professional side. The staff at Ridley & Hall are also extremely welcoming and are a firm open to helping and enhancing personal development; as well as supporting me through my process.
I started working at Ridley & Hall in 2009 doing summer work experience and was then offered a paid role as an administrator in 2010. I covered all sorts of admin roles including reception, progressing throughout the years and became a legal secretary working for various teams before landing a role in the child care department in 2012 where I stayed for some time before becoming a typist for various teams again in 2016. The practice manager’s assistant then went on maternity leave in 2017 and I was asked to cover the role during their leave until being offered the role on a permanent basis in September of 2018. The business then agreed that they would fund my HR course in March of 2019 and I am due to finish this course in July of this year. Throughout my time at Ridley & Hall they have helped me progress, supported me massively through any issues that I have had and motivated me to do my best and strive for success. They have consistently inspired me, helping me to grow within the business and I could not have asked for better support from an employer.
Working at Ridley & Hall has been a great experience. From taking statements and writing letters to clients to general filing, there has been plenty to keep me busy over the summer. I couldn’t have asked for a warmer welcome. Everyone has been friendly and supportive which has made for a really pleasant working environment. You don’t get that everywhere! Ridley & Hall has been a great place to work. Thank you for the opportunity.
Initially I was employed at Ridley and Hall on a one month rolling contract to fulfil a specific role merging Ludgate Morrell’s Will’s on to Ridley and Hall’s Database.
This turned out to be a successful project for me and Ridley and Hall offered me the chance to partake in a series of apprenticeships at the National Business College, where I later went on to complete apprenticeships in Business Admin Level 2 and 3 and then eventually Customer Service Level 3.
This gave me a good understanding of the business sector, but I had always had a keen eye on IT work. During an appraisal I asked the question to Ridley and Hall as to whether I could shadow the IT guy at the time, which Ridley and Hall agreed was a good progression route for myself.
12 months on Tracey Armitage, Operations & HR Manager, proposed I complete an Infrastructure Technician course at Estio Training Centre in Leeds to further develop my knowledge and skills in IT.
I am grateful for the support and patience Ridley and Hall have offered during the 8 years I have worked here.
The Solicitor Apprenticeship Scheme is an appealing route to become a solicitor because I am able to learn on the job as well as in the classroom. Ridley and Hall are a supportive firm who have their employees best interests at heart, encouraging them to strive to the best of their potential without having to go down the traditional route. I am looking forward to gaining experience on the job whilst learning the ins and outs of different areas of law at university.
