Susan was the executor of her late mother’s Will. Her mother owned her own home, and in her later years one of Susan’s sisters, Linda had moved in with her. After her mother’s death, Susan was horrified to find out that around £80,000.00 that should have been in her mum’s accounts, had been withdrawn over a period of years. Some small lump sums had been taken out and regular weekly cash of £300 from a cashpointThe level of expenditure could not be explained by the deceased’s very frugal lifestyle. Linda, who lived with her mother, was an alcoholic and was verbally abusive to Susan when asked to explain what had happened Linda completely denied that she had financially abused her mother Investigating the money trail was difficult but Susan felt that she owed it to her mother and her other sisters to establish the truth The case was eventually settled at mediation before proceedings were issued at court.
