Melanie Pickering joined the firm’s Wills & Probate team in April 2021, helping to expand the department. She has over 5 years’ experience of experience in this area of law and qualified as a solicitor into this field in 2017. Although always based in Yorkshire, Melanie has worked with clients based all around the country, and internationally.
Her experience allows Melanie to advise clients in respect to all aspects of Wills, Powers of Attorney, Probate and Court of Protection work, whether the individual’s financial or family circumstances are straight-forward or complex. She also has experience in contested Wills and contested Court of Protection matters. This means that Melanie is well equipped to advise clients whose estates may be at risk of a claim after their death, and to put measures in place to try and reduce the likelihood of such claims being successful.
Having worked on Missing Persons cases for some time in her previous role, Melanie is also experienced at handling the estates of individuals who have been missing for a long time, and who have been legally declared deceased by the Courts.
Melanie is also a Dementia Friends Champion and very much enjoys helping to inform individuals, companies, and other organisations about dementia. In doing so, Melanie hopes to help make Yorkshire, and the UK as a whole, a more dementia friendly place to live.
Outside work, Melanie enjoys exploring new places and cultures at home and abroad and is looking forward to getting back to travelling soon! She is keen on charity work, particularly Race for Life (which she has now completed 10 times), and animal charities. Melanie and her husband sponsor an endangered animal every year at Christmas to give something back.
